Rambadagalla Monaragala Temple, also known as Rambadagalla Viharaya, is a cherished Buddhist temple nestled in the peaceful countryside of Sri Lanka’s Kurunegala District. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, or Sri Dalada Maligawa, is the most sacred Buddhist temple in the world. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy. The temple houses the sacred tooth of Buddha nestled in a golden chamber within the premises of the royal palace complex. Evening is the best time to visit when the temple is lit up.

According to Sri Lankan legend, the left canine tooth of Buddha was retrieved from his funeral pyre after his death in 543 BC. It is believed that this tooth is stored in the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. The ambiance inside is exceptionally cozy and welcoming; it enthralls with the smells of fresh flowers and coconut oil-lit candles and lamps. Within the temple, the daily pujas are carried out on the ground floor, consisting of the Pallemaluwa. On Wednesdays, the bathing of the relic with an herbal preparation (scented water and fragrant flowers) takes place. It is called the Nanumura Mangallaya. This holy water is of substantial spiritual reverence and is distributed among the devotees. 

The temple grounds are spread out over many hectares and have all tourist spots under one roof. Museum, Royal gardens, royal palace, Ambience hall, Mahamaluwa, meditation grounds, moonstone, and the Kandy lake overlooking an array of florals – these and many more sights are the reasons for its ingenuity and grandeur! Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is said that whichever state holds the tooth relic maintains an essential place in the country's governance.

Towering above the town of Kurunegala, Elephant Rock—also known as Ethagala—is one of the most iconic natural landmarks in the region. Shaped strikingly like a resting elephant, this massive granite outcrop not only gives the town its unique identity but also offers visitors a panoramic view of Kurunegala and the surrounding landscapes. Rising approximately 325 meters above sea level, it's an easy-to-moderate hike that rewards you with breathtaking sunrise or sunset views.

Nestled in the lush town of Rambukkana, adjacent to the renowned Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, the Pinnawala Open Zoo offers a unique wildlife experience in Sri Lanka. Inaugurated on April 17, 2015, this 44-acre zoo stands as the country's first open-air zoological garden, designed to provide animals with habitats that closely resemble their natural environments.

The zoo is divided into two main zones: the Sri Lankan Zone, which showcases native species like the Sri Lankan leopard, sambar deer, and purple-faced leaf monkey; and the World Zone, home to various exotic animals. Visitors can explore seven main enclosures, including the leopard enclosure, bear enclosure, crocodile pond, butterfly garden, and swan pond. Some areas, such as the monkey island and bird aviary, are still under development.

Established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation, the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage serves as a sanctuary for orphaned, injured, and displaced wild Asian elephants. Situated in the village of Pinnawala, near Kegalle, the orphanage spans 25 acres of lush land adjacent to the Maha Oya River. It began with just five baby elephants and has since grown into the world's largest captive elephant herd, housing over 70 elephants, including multiple generations. 

Visitors can observe daily routines such as bottle-feeding sessions at 9:15 AM, 1:15 PM, and 5:00 PM, and river bathing at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. These activities offer insights into the care and rehabilitation efforts for these majestic creatures. The orphanage also boasts a successful breeding program, with over 75 births recorded to date.

Tucked away in the quiet village of Ridigama, about 20 kilometers from Kurunegala, Ridi Viharaya—also known as the Silver Temple—is a sacred and historically significant Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka. Built during the reign of King Dutugemunu in the 2nd century BCE, it marks the place where a silver ore deposit was discovered. This silver played a key role in completing the construction of the magnificent Ruwanwelisaya stupa in Anuradhapura. As a tribute, the king established Ridi Viharaya at the very site of the find.

Its ancient cave shrines, known as Rajatha Lena (Silver Caves), are adorned with beautiful murals, carvings, and centuries-old Buddha statues. One of the standout features is the Pancha Nari Ghataya—an intricately carved ivory artifact that, at first glance, appears to be a vase, but on closer look reveals five gracefully intertwined female figures. The peaceful temple grounds, surrounded by lush greenery and stone outcrops, provide both spiritual inspiration and breathtaking views. Nestled in the tranquil forests near Kurunegala, Arankale Buddhist Monastery is a serene retreat that dates back to the Anuradhapura period. This ancient forest monastery was once the abode of the revered monk Arahant Maliyadeva, believed to be the last known Arhat in Sri Lanka. The monastery served as a sanctuary for Pansukulika monks, who led austere lives dedicated to meditation and spiritual practice.​

Perched atop a 90-meter-high granite outcrop in Sri Lanka's North Western Province, Yapahuwa Rock Fortress stands as a testament to the island's rich medieval history. Established in 1273 by King Bhuvanekabahu I, Yapahuwa briefly served as the capital of Sri Lanka and was the custodian of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha. Located in the historic city of Panduwasnuwara in Sri Lanka's Kurunegala District, Panduwasnuwara Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple that reflects the rich cultural heritage of the region.
